Conti Wood Studio

Conti Wood Studio has been building amazing furniture pieces since 2010. His work is inspired primarily by nature, which led him to age old Japanese art of wood-working techniques where they use distinguished woodworking joints, with no screws and nails, in respect of the material they work with.

Conti prides himself on the fact that he sources all his wood naturally, is passionate about the environment, and he makes sure all that once harvested the trees are treated with the highest level of appreciation with a focus on minimal waste.

Keeping in mind this beautiful ideology for his business, I wanted his logo to express all those qualities as simply and minimally as possible.

While researching I came across the ancient art of Japanese marbling, Suminagashi or ‘floating ink’.   A process of marbling plain paper with water and ink, which originated in Japan as early as the 12th century and was first practiced by Shinto priests as a form of divination.

The organic and natural look and feel imparted by this technique was used to build upon a brand identity for this business.

The concentric rings created as a result of ‘Suminagashi’ are symbolic of the ‘growth’ ring of a tree.

The simple, uncomplicated, linear leaf and the fresh green colour reflect the business’ stance and inclination towards nature and the environment.

The business card, product tag and other collateral as needed will have the ‘Suminagashi’ pattern (any option from the 4 above) on one side with the required information on the other
